The Hot Stove rumors about David Wright are both true and false. True: the Mets will trade write. False: a deal with the Colorado Rockies is in the works. New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson has an impeccable sense of timing. Moving Wright is no longer a matter of if, but when.

Dave Winfield got his first taste of the New York Mets over lunch. For the Mets front office team of Nelson Doubleday and Frank Cashen this was all new and, in hindsight, the 1980 Major League Baseball Reentry Draft, marked the organizations first major foray into free agency. For Winfield the visit to the Big Apple was business as usual.

Mark Cuban moved to Dallas three decades ago and took a gig as a bartender to pay the bills. Today, he owns the defending NBA champion Dallas Mavericks, Forbes Magazine estimates his value at $2.3 billion and he has placed a bid on the Los Angeles Dodgers.

On an Alabama radio frequency hundreds of miles south of the ears of New York fans and media, New York Jet Greg McElroy spoke frankly about the his teammates. He described the teammates as “selfish” and the locker room “corrupt.”
